Deron Baker grew up in Linwood, New Jersey. He began experimenting with the guitar at 14. He learned through experimentation and began playing in bands at age 15. Two years later, in 1993, his focus shifted to the bass. He studied Music Theory under Tony DeLucca at Atlantic Community College in Mays Landing, New Jersey. He moved to Boston in 1995 where he made ties with students from Berklee College of Music. He played alongside these students and took it as an opportunity to learn and develop with them.
